May 21, 2020 Update

Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last month as we have gathered information and waited for guidance from health officials and trusted resources.

It is with profound sadness and deep regret that the Camp PARC Board of Trustees and directors, have reluctantly decided to cancel the 2020 season of Camp PARC.

With the indefinite closure of Pennsylvania State Park Group Camps and the barriers to operate a summer camp while maintaining social distancing practices, we simply felt we could not offer the quality of program that you have come to expect. It would not be possible for us to gather at the campfire, in the dining hall, or even play large group games. Camp PARC, as we know and love, is not possible at the present time.

This decision has been very difficult for us to make. We realize what a disappointment this will be for our campers, our staff, and our many volunteers, who want to be at camp this year.

For those families who have registered to attend Camp PARC this summer, we will be in touch shortly by email regarding refunds.

Whatever your relationship to Camp PARC, there is a feeling of loss. We feel it too – Camp PARC is a vital part of all our lives, and we never imagined we would see a summer without camp.

We are confident that we will rise and thrive together next summer. But we can’t do it alone. As you can imagine canceling camp and our two main fundraising events have created a significant strain on our financial resources. We ask you to consider making a gift to Camp PARC during this time. A gift, in any amount, will help sustain Camp PARC throughout this year and will enable us to keep our camp program alive for years to come.

Please continue to stay connected with Camp PARC through our website, social media, and your email accounts, as we make plans to keep this community together throughout the summer.

We wish everyone continued health, safety, love, and kindness,

Aunt Judy, Uncle Ted, and the Camp PARC Board of Trustees

May 8, 2020 Update

We have received many inquiries regarding the status of Camp PARC’s 2020 season. As we continue to watch how this situation with CoVid-19 develops and what it means to the world of summer camp, we appreciate how patiently you have been waiting to find out what our plans are for the summer. This situation is certainly testing our adaptability and our patience, and we imagine it is testing yours as well.

Our directors, board members, and key staff have been monitoring the situation and are exploring many different options for how our summer sessions would run. The Pennsylvania Governor recently extended the state parks remain closed until May 14, and also released a preliminary plan to slowly reopen Pennsylvania. (As we write this, Somerset County is being added to the yellow status beginnging next week.) Even now though, it is still very much a wait and see situation. The CDC and state health department are also to develop specific guidance for summer camps, but that too has not yet been released.

We know how much our campers, staff, and volunteers are hoping to be at Camp PARC this summer. The health and overall well-being of those in our camp community is our top priority. We will only hold camp if various civil authorities have cleared us to do so, and if we feel that we can do the absolute best job maintaining health and sanitation while providing the quality Camp PARC experience we all expect.

Therefore, we are asking for you all to be a little more patient, as we continue to work through various scenarios. Our plan is to give you an update on Monday May 18.

In the meantime, let’s all remember to stay hopeful, be kind and continue to make the world a better place. Together, we will all work through this complex and unique situation.

In Camp PARC spirit,
Uncle Ted, Aunt Judy, Aunt Melinda, Aunt Sarah and the Camp PARC Board of Trustees
